Compact, high-precision MEMS gyroscope for directional drilling. Offers low noise, wide temperature range, and fast SPI output—ideal for MWD, LWD, and harsh downhole conditions.
In directional drilling and logging—critical operations in oil and gas exploration, mineral development, and geological engineering—precise trajectory control, stable attitude acquisition, and reliable data transmission remain persistent challenges, especially under high-temperature, high-pressure, and high-vibration environments. Traditional gyroscope solutions such as mechanical or fiber-optic gyros often struggle to meet the miniaturization, cost, and real-time requirements of downhole operations.
The MG-502 series high-precision MEMS single-axis gyroscope is engineered to deliver navigation-grade performance in a compact form factor. It provides accurate angular rate data in real time, making it ideal for determining wellbore azimuth, toolface angle, and inclination in challenging drilling scenarios.
High-Resolution Output
MG-502 outputs 24-bit two’s complement angular rate data with exceptional resolution, enabling detection of subtle rotational changes for precise directional guidance in complex well trajectories.
Outstanding Stability
With built-in temperature compensation and low-noise circuitry, the MG-502 minimizes bias drift over time. It’s well-suited for long-duration operations in extended-reach wells and shale gas drilling where long-term accuracy is essential.
Ultra-Low Noise
Selectable low-pass filter (LPF) options ranging from 12.5 Hz to 800 Hz suppress high-frequency noise, ensuring smooth, stable output even in high-speed rotary drilling environments.
Miniature Ceramic Package
Housed in a 48-pin ceramic package, MG-502 is optimized for integration into compact instruments such as MWD (Measurement While Drilling), LWD (Logging While Drilling) tools, and gyro inclinometers.
Installation Flexibility
Designed in accordance with IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020D.1 standards, the MG-502 performs reliably under thermal and mechanical stress. Its compact form factor makes it an excellent choice for small-diameter borehole applications.
Wide Temperature Range
The standard model supports operation from -45°C to +85°C, while the high-temperature variant can reach up to +125°C, making it suitable for deep-well and geothermal logging environments.
Vibration and Shock Resistance
Equipped with robust ESD protection and multi-stage filtering, the MG-502 resists mechanical shock and electrical disturbances. Anti-static handling and proper grounding are recommended for optimal performance.
High-Speed Digital Communication
Supporting a 4-wire SPI interface (Mode 3) at up to 8 MHz, the MG-502 allows high-frequency data updates—configurable up to 12 kHz—ensuring rapid, lossless transmission of angular rate and temperature data, even during high-speed tool rotation.
The MG-502 series MEMS single-axis gyroscope combines navigation-grade precision, miniaturized packaging, and outstanding environmental adaptability. It enhances trajectory control accuracy and measurement reliability in directional drilling while enabling integration into compact, real-time downhole sensing systems. MG-502 is a critical enabler in advancing intelligent, high-efficiency drilling technologies.
